The so-called "freedom" initially came as a shock: millions of East Germans lost their jobs and identity after the end of the GDR

In the literature of the turnaround period, the clichés of the soulless, money-obsessed West on the one hand
and the backward, lethargic East on the other were major leitmotifs.


								
								The fence
          There is still disorientation and helplessness today. But the human remembrance is ready to make a memory out of the traces of the experiences. Which we then mostly forget, the most memories fade. And that is good.

The brain is constantly filtering the abundance of information and impressions that affect us. Made experiences do not remain what they were.
